Dues: How each troop funds their activities
Each troop can decide whether to collect dues from members, sell products in the fall nut/magazine sale, sell cookies or sell other fundraising items (with Council's permission). Money raised becomes property of Girl Scouts and is deposited in the troop's bank account. Troop members decide together how the money will be used. Troop money should be used to fund troop activities, purchase vests, badges, fun patches, membership fees, snacks, books, supplies, etc.
Currently the annual membership fee for girls is $40. The membership for adult volunteers is $25. (Council offers financial assistance to those in need.)
Dues collected for the Service Unit:
Each year, all troops in grades 1-12 are required to contribute a per girl fee to fund the Oradell Service Unit bank account. This money is used to reimburse for certain town wide events, purchases like flags, banners, award ceremony trophies/program booklets/decorations, recruiting materials, website subscription, etc. For those town wide events that are not in the budget, enough money must be collected from participants to cover all expenses. Any extra money collected is to be turned over to the SUM for deposit in the Service Unit bank account. Check with the SUM about funding before planning any town wide event.
